Alok Verma Monday had submitted his response to a probe report filed by the Central Vigilance Commission, which is investigating allegations of corruption against him.
Upset over the “leak” of CBI Director Alok Verma’s reply to the CVC’s findings, the Supreme Court Tuesday adjourned hearing his petition challenging a government order on October 23 divesting him of his duties.
Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi rapped senior counsel Fali S Nariman, who was appearing for Verma, saying, “We had given this to you as one of the most respected senior members. What do you say? Please say.” The case will be taken up for hearing on November 29.

The Supreme Court had said the report, which was to be treated as confidential, “can be categorised into four — very complimentary on some charges, not so complimentary on some charges, very uncomplimentary on some charges, and some charges require further probe”.
The CVC is probing corruption allegations levelled by CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana against Verma. The government had sent both Verma and Asthana on leave after differences between them came out in the open. Both officers have moved the Supreme Court.
The hearing also comes a day after the apex court refused to hear a petition filed by CBI DIG Manish Kumar Sinha challenging the government’s decision to transfer him to Nagpur. In his petition to the SC, Sinha alleged that National Security Advisor Ajit Doval interfered in the investigation against Special Director Rakesh Asthana. He also levelled serious charges against the PMO, Minister of State for Coal and Mines Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary and Law Secretary Suresh Chandra.
